Silverstone has developed the Milo series, designer to be compact and still offering good airflow. Also, SilverStone's Milo series can accommodate many system components.

We tested the SilverStone Milo ML01, and here are the results.

The contents of the package were: the case itself, US power cable, user's manual, screws and other installation hardware. Foot stand are also included, so you can setup the Milo horizontally or vertically. With the card reader models, a paper with the USB pin configuration is included; however, the card reader version of ML01 take up the external 3.5'' drive bay, and since there is only a single external 3.5'' drive bay, this could cause problems to some users. The case weighs 5 kg and measures in at 330 x 98 x 423 mm.

Opening the ML01, you can notice that internal drives can be mounted perpendicularly to the external drive bays, so that the drive is positioned directly in front of the intake fan. There are also series of vents to help with the ventilation.

To test the ML01, we decided to use power hungry components, to check how well the ML01 is able to hold up with desktop component. Our philosophy was that if the Milo ML01 is able to withstand a Pentium D processor with a TDP of 95W, it should have no problems with other Pentium with less power. We also wanted to test the acoustics of the chassis. Here is a list of the components we chose

The installation was straightforward, thanks also to the manual documenting very well the procedures. To test the case, we used two hard drives, using both the internal and the external 3.5'' drive bay. To do this with a card reader model you will have to remove it. However, installing a second hard drive was very hard, so we wouldn't advise it. We encountered no problems during installation and also during operation of standard desktop components. We run into no heat related issues: after over an hour, the system temperatures had varied from 50° to 60° C.

In conclusion, the product is unique and well designed; there are a few faults, though. Since there are many ventilation holes, dust filters would have been a good idea; and with the card reader taking up the external 3.5'' drive, there is no room for a second hard drive bay. Greater room for cable management and storage would have been nice, too.

However, the Milo ML01 is an excellent product for its compact size.

The nMedia HTPC200 has some good and not-so-good features to it. The not-so-good things are the hard drive cage that is riveted to the enclosure and not removable. A removable cage would have been a better way to go, allowing the end user to better secure the hard drives. The HTCP200 also isn't supplied with a MCE Remote control and when one is purchased, the remote IR receiver must be taken apart and mounted in the enclosure .......

The Silverstone LC03 stands as living proof that companies are practically tripping over themselves to construct brand new cases for this swiftly growing HTPC market. The first generation LC01 from Silverstone was a very remarkable offering, but the newer LC03 is just as impressive.

First off, the LC03 isn't merely a revision of its precursor. Rather, it is an entirely new case that is meant to be marketed side by side with its predecessor. So how exactly is it different? Well, the LC03:

• Is slightly smaller in length.
• Has one 60 mm. fan as opposed to an 80 mm. fan.
• Offers the option of adding and extra 80 mm. fan.
• Only has four 3 ? slots
• Has a piano black finish with a contoured aluminum front bezel.

In terms of performance, both the LC01 and the LC03 do quite well. Tests have shown that the LC01 reached temperatures of 53 degrees on the CPU and 35 degrees on the motherboard. The LC03 was a bit hotter with temperatures of 58 degrees on the CPU and 39 degrees on the motherboard. This was with the 60 mm. fan alone. When the additional 80 mm. fan was enabled, the temperatures dropped by 1 and 2 degrees respectively.

Here's a look at the pros and cons of this device:

Cons

• Has a smaller fan, although there is room for expansion
• Temperatures reach a little higher than the LC01, although they are still within the acceptable range.
• Using the hard drive tray can be a little tricky.
• Could use a couple more motherboard mounts.

Pros

• The exterior finish gives it a very stylish, expensive look.
• The construction is quite durable.
• It is available in many colors
• Both the hard drives and the DVD drives can be expanded.
• Has front USB, stereo and Firewire ports.
• Aluminum doors conceal the jacks as well as the drives.

One of the best features of the LC03 is its appearance. You get a high-end look without having to pay a high-end price. The LC03 is a great value for a machine that shows no major faults. The biggest complaint is the size of the fan, which is 20 mm. smaller than that of the LC01. This can be overcome by adding an 80 mm. fan to the allotted space at the front of the machine. Overall, the LC03 is great machine that can fit in with any home theatre system.

A small form factor platform looks inevitably great for home theater PCs. The best suited for the all the home theatre PCs would be an ATX cabinet. But not all the ATX cabinets are good. The person much be careful in choosing the ATX cabinet for a high end system. First impression

The first aspect that has to be noted is the weight of the Silverstone LC01. It is as light as the feather and weighs 4.2 kg with a sturdy alloy construction and a non breakable case.

External

The most salient feature that any one would notice about Silverstone LC01 is the gorgeous black exterior finish with polish silver stripes, and also available in various colors of user choice. It also uses external drive bays to camouflage the case’s external bays and port cluster. It is enriched with its stylish finish with matching colors in accordance with the interior. It also has a power button and a Led display and various other salient features like PCI ports, USB etc.

Inside

The most attracting feature is the stiff spine at the centre which makes the enclosure look as light as the feather, which is also easily removable by just removing a few screws. It can accommodate two 2.5” drives, two external 3.5” drives and four 3.5” drives which almost no other system provides.

How about cooling?

The most important aspect of a cabinet is the cooling methods. Here we use the only active cooling element an 80mm exhaust powered but a fan from Everflow. This fan is powered by a 3 pin header that will work with all standard motherboards. This does not include any adapter with it which provides an excellent ventilation facility.

How we test?

Its is tested with the Intel Pentium Celeron processor 2.6 GHz, NVdia Fx 5200 and high end performing RAM.

A Virtual dub DivX encode was used to simulate a disk and CPU workload. All the load test run for ten minutes, before noise and temperature measurements are taken. After testing system was powered down and outer shell was removed for another ten minutes. The temperature was 29C. It is called as the benchmarking sweatshop.

Desktop was set at 1024*768, 32 bit color with 75 KHz screen refresh rate. Thus under the most ideal test condition our Silverstone LC01 proved to be most stable.

Tell me about noise

This test is taken using an digital sound level meter. It is placed one inch from the front in order to monitor noise level change. The system proved to be quite with fans powered down, but, it proved to be quieter with the fans running because of True power 380 W power supply temperature control to have spin faster and quieter.

Conclusion

Reaching the most important part of the product, I would say Silverstone LC01 is one of the best solutions for your home theatre PCs. The attractive style, size, weight and a System friendly environment inside, which probably no other cabinet can provide. Introducing Silverstone LC10 Home Theater PC Case.

Home theater systems have interested me years before DVD became available. And for getting a cutting edge home theater technology it would be prudent to get a home theater PC(HTPC).

Well many years before HDTV became available to the average consumer HTPC was the only way to get a progressive scan,scaled and line-doubled digital video. Now HDPC sets are available to the public but before they became affordable HTPC was an easy way to do the recording and editing high definition TV. so even today HTPC is used for that purpose because of cost or as there isn't a product to do the same. As of now HTPC is available with HDTV sets and have become affordable.

An appliance like HTPC would be a crowning glory to have, if it gives best image quality and is also endowed with beautiful looking features. And for a HTPC to be in the cutting edge it should have features like, remote control and configurations which can be done with keyboard and mouse which are to be plugged in as and when necessary. Well I had no luck in the past several years in finding a good HTPC product. And recently there had been good products available and Silverstone Technology has been producing quality home theater PC cases for some years. They have products ranging from slim low-profile cases to hefty amplifier-like enclosures. And now we would review the Silverstone LC10 home theater PC case.

Features of the HTPC

They come with custom-moulded foam for protection during shipping, packed in a thick corrugated cardboard box. Thick plastic wrapping of the case is also been done for protection. And within the case there is a small white box containing the installation manual, drive by cover and various screws. And the details of the product are given below:

The case has the front panel in aluminium and rest in steel which is painted silver which gives a pretty look for the case. As for the weight it is 18 pounds. And to make sure there is no interference of the radio frequencies generated by the PC with the rest of your audio equipment the steel is 1.0mm thick than the standard CE used in many PC cases. And Silverstone also includes a ferrite ring for the front connector cables to avoid the wires from acting like RF antennas. So they have pretty well made the equipment to
be reliable.

The front bezel is absolutely beautiful with a clean brushed aluminum finish. The design is simplistically elegant with oblong power and reset buttons, blue LEDs, four USB ports and a single 5.25” external drive bay. The front panel consists of two thick pieces of aluminum, one of which can be unscrewed and slid out of the way for easy drive installation. There is a decorative strip carved horizontally down the bezel for a simple professional look. The front USB ports have a similar recessed oval carved around them. These front USB ports adds to the appliance-like factor of the unit, as a USB keyboard and mouse can be hot-plugged here when configuration is necessary. Firewire and front audio ports are cleverly hidden away on the left side of the front bezel. Rounded rectangular air intake holes also appear here (as well as on the bottom) to assist the 80mm intake fan on the inside.

The bottom of the case is fitted with four rubber feet, each surrounded by an aluminum ring. Three of the feet are firmly attached with screws (which extend into the case’s interior, but the fourth is attached with a plastic pin to avoid interfering with power supply installation and spins freely. Both sides of the case have an array of hexagon holes stamped out of the sides, and they are strategically placed to assist with airflow. The left side’s venting is near the back with add-in cards, and the right side’s venting is stamped near the front, avoiding the power supply and helping to cool the drive bays. The lid of the case is a shallow “U” shape that covers the top, left and right sides of the case.

Opening this lid reveals a standard desktop layout. Two 5.25” bays are flushed against the left side of the case, a removable 3.5” drive cage adorns the center, and an 80mm intake fan is attached to the right. Below the 5.25” bays is an additional 3.5” bay that can be unscrewed and slid out. The main bed can accept any size ATX motherboard, and there is enough room for a standard ATX power supply. Above the IO panel are two 60mm fans, made by Silverstone. They both have standard 3-pin fan headers. The 80mm front intake fan is a generic brand, and requires a 4-pin molex connector from the power supply.

The case is of wondrous quality and it has been tested for reliability. As for the components in the case one would marvel at their excellent positioning and their connections. The testing is done as per standard procedure and it is reliable,and the case could be trusted to give optimal performance.

So for all the enthusiasts who want to view,edit and record high definition videos like in a TV with a remote, plus would like to have advanced configuration options with a keyboard and mouse this Silverstone LC10 home theater PC case is an excellent device to make your viewing experience a pleasure. HOW TO TEST:

For this Micro ATX Build, I installed a PC Chips M825LU motherboard with an AMD 3200+ processor and a 2 gig of DDR Ram. Both video and audio is handled by the motherboard. The build included a CD Burner, 30 Gig hard drive and a standard floppy drive.

I installed the drives in the cage. With the drives installed cable management becomes more critical. Placing the cabling under the cage can result in pinched or damaged cables. I connected the cables to the drives and then connected them to the motherboard after the cage was securely in place.

With the install completed, I made an effort to bundle the wiring to allow the single 80mm fan to work more efficiently. We always recommend clean wiring but in a micro case airflow is even more critical

The completed build.

The black drives really accent the color scheme nicely. For a HTPC build I would recommend forgoing the floppy and installing a multimedia display controller. After running the PC for about two hours I noticed the surface gets warm but the 80 mm fan keeps the heat from effecting the components. On the plus side, the Antec Minuet 300 is very quiet even at load. The temptation to switch the fan to low and remove most of the rest of the noise is high.

Conclusion:

The small size and exceptional looks would go well next to my home theater components and the size would make the PC blend in to the system nicely. The half size expansion slots do require you to shop for a video card that may not be cutting edge or opt for onboard components as we have here. The size and cooling all make this case perfect for a tight environment or for on the go. I can't stress enough how tiny this case really is, its almost exactly the size of two of my laptops stacked together! If you have been shopping for a Micro ATX case, the search is over. Antec has made every effort to save space and the result looks as good as any full size case I have seen. Building a Micro is not for everyone, but there is no better way to save space and add portability. With Antec's industry leading AQ3 warranty you can buy with confidence.

Zalman HD160XT is a htpc case which got a 7" Touch Screen LCD Panel. It is Windows Media Center ready and has a remote with IR receiver. Antec Fusion is simply designed and somewhat resembles a high end amplifier. The front bezel is composed of plastic with a chunk of aluminum attached. The aluminum front bezel comprises of cut outs for an integrated VFD, hidden optical drive door and volume control knob. Two USB 2.0, one Firewire, headphone and microphone ports are also on the front bezel too. The hidden optical drive door is similar to the front bezel. It’s composed of plastic with a piece of aluminum attached to match the rest of the case.

Measuring 5.5” (H) x 17.5” (W) x 16.3” (L), the Antec Fusion is the perfect size for most entertainment centers. It's composed of steel and weighs in at 17.4lbs which isn’t too heavy. Black paint accompanies the aluminum front bezel for a simplistic look.

While most manufacturers of computer cases are using the blue LED, Antec has installed white LED’s for the power and hard drive activity LED lights. This is a nice change as white isn’t as obnoxiously annoying as blue.
